Dinosaur Rock

You know, I never understood people’s attraction to photo albums. You look at a photo and you see people. When someone says look at photo of you. I see a photo of some stranger. He does not look like me now. Is that really me?

Only now do I understand the attraction. A photo is a touchstone. It brings you back to a time and place. And for a moment you can be your younger self. You bring back “What you were feeling”, “What you were thinking”, and a vast flood of other details. You relive that moment. Me? I see the picture of some stranger that’s supposed to be me.

It’s the same thing with Dinosaur Rock. The stuff we listened to growing up. It’s old and too familiar. Today’s music is so much better.

I get it now. They wake up memories. The girl you were with. How much you loved her. How she slashed all four of your tires? All those unforgettable feeling rush back.

Me? I’m embarrassed I once liked those songs.
