Hallo
By Jessica Lake
I’m a state trooper.
We find more bodies along the highway than you’d think. Mostly the homeless. The hopeless.
Winter here freezes them stiff as statues.
This one stuck with me. She was lying there in the snow. Young. Real young.
More child than woman.
Her eyes were frozen on the sky. That was unremarkable.
But before she froze, she’d made herself into a snow angel.
